A lazy Friday in Aix.
The flower market is held daily in University square about a 15-minute walk from the apartment. It’s a busy place in the late morning. The vendors have a nice selection of cut flowers & plants available and we grab some great smelling roses to brighten up the apartment. Just around the corner is one of the farmer markets held every Friday. The cheeses are incredible. I picked out a few interesting cheeses, one infused with truffle and another with basil.
For a late lunch we returned to DaVito, an Italian restaurant serving the best pizza in Aix. After a stroll along the medieval streets we head back to the apartment for a relaxing afternoon & evening on the balcony.

It’s interesting, I never realized how warm it can get in Aix in September. The weather has been in the high 80’s for the better part of the week and it is beautiful skies, no cloud cover to be seen. It makes it a little warm for walking out and about on the city streets.
Dick heads out to one of the other markets held in University Square this morning to check it out. I had commented yesterday that I was surprised that no flowers were being sold at our local and quite large market. Apparently, the flowers are sold at the Flower Market – at University Square, go figure. He returns home with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and 2 very interesting cheeses.
We have been in a pizza mood for several days and have decided to return to DaVito. This time we make a reservation for lunch. Most restaurants in France serve dinner type meals between 7:30 and 9:30 at night, lunches are between 11:30 and 1:30 in the afternoon. We prefer to eat a little earlier, so we decide to have a nice lunch and snacks later, on the terrace if necessary.
We order the caprese salad and a cheese pizza to split. The caprese salad is lovely; mixed greens, several types of tomatoes, fresh buffalo mozzarella, balsamic vinegar and some beautiful aged Italian ham, it is huge! We barely get through the salad and our server wants to know if we are ready for the 2nd course, then the pizza arrives – probably a 12” pizza, Neapolitan style crust with fresh mozzarella and parmesan cheese and a little tomato sauce and a few wisps of fresh basil, really good. I really don’t know how people eat these meals here. We did decide that we might have to return one more time before we leave.
We wander home through the back streets and discover yet another square and café. After a beverage we return to enjoy some air conditioning and then the terrace once it cools off.
