On our morning safari Danie and Trust drove us to several nearby pans. We captured a nice picture of the early morning skies.

Along with the ever-present elephants we encountered giraffe, some massive rhinos and some antelope species not seen before – the ‘Greater Nyala’ and ‘Common Waterbuck’.
A special sighting was of a pack of the endangered African Painted Dog. These guys have a complex social structure and are highly cooperative, especially during hunts. They have a distinctive fur pattern of red, black, brown, white and yellow patches. The pattern is individual to each dog, much like human fingerprints. Interesting stuff.
During our afternoon break back at the lodge we met new guests – another honeymoon couple. These two were from Wales and lived in the same small village in Wales where Dick stayed during a recent golf trip.
While on our evening game drive Danie got word that a pride of Lions had been located who were feeding off a kill. Off we went and found the pride who were finishing off the remains of a successful Cape Buffalo hunt. It was very successful as they took two of the buffalo on the same hunt.
We couldn’t really see much besides the scrum of lions jostling for a place at the table. Nature at work!
The night sky was quite clear. We asked Danie to point out the Southern Cross and he whipped out a military grade laser pointer to point out that constellation and many others. Very cool!
