We’re finishing up the Ghan today. It’s interesting how the landscape has changed over the last half a day – from red dirt and scrub grass to rolling wheat fields. We’ve gotten to bond with many of our travelling companions – good folk all. For some, bidding goodbye is tough (Marcus from Queensland and Maryann from Adelaide). The crew on the train have been top notch.
Our flat in Adelaide is well situated. It’s in a historical building quite close to the main drag (Rundle St) and just across from Adelaide University. Our hosts are very cool and we’re able to settle in quickly.

We bid farewell today to both the Ghan, and the lovely people we have had a chance to meet on this journey. We didn’t meet as many Aussies on this train ride as the last, but everyone has been great.
The crew did a wonderful job, but I have a soft spot in my heart for Catherine, our dining car manager, a born project manager if I’ve ever seen one! When I remarked on her efficiency, she wasn’t sure it was a compliment, but once she realized I was sincere, she was genuinely touched that someone noticed.
A quick call to Uber and we are on our way to the apartment. Our flat is centrally located to many attractions. We are very close to the Stag Hotel, so we stop in for a pint and some wine and we luck into a solo guitarist playing some good music.
We have a nice walkabout and find a place to have dinner. I’m sorry to admit I had a margarite pizza, after all the rich food on the train it’s nice to have something simple. We settle in for the evening and get a quick load of laundry in while enjoying the wi-fi, the first in several days.
