Our morning drive took us to the far end of the Timbavati Reserve. The terrain is a hillier than near the lodge. We enjoyed some beautiful views of the misty valleys. The guys found a lovely spot overlooking the landscape for our AM coffee stop. Very peaceful.
Our focus for the morning hunt was the African Buffalo as Christina and Jeremy still need them for their ‘Big Five’ list. It took some time and serious trekking, but Trust finally spotted a pair deep in the brush. As huge as they are, it’s amazing how quietly the buffalo move through the undercover. If you didn’t see them, you wouldn’t even know they were there.
It’s another ‘Bush Breakfast’ today and staff have set up a nice buffet of breads, fruits, cheeses, and ‘cook-to-order’ offerings. It’s quite an effort to haul the chairs, tables, cooking supplies and food from the lodge to the dining site but well worth it.
The afternoon drive was our last of the trip. Lots of critters, as usual. Another buffalo – this one caped in mud as a defense against bugs.
We ran into a couple of rhinos blocking the road, then jostling with each other for some unknown reason.
Danie was curious as to whether the leopard was still guarding whatever was left of the poor impala she had been dining on, so we headed that way as the sun began to set. The hyenas were still on guard looking for scraps and sure enough, the leopard was still in her tree. Probably too full to move after a big meal!
