Paris to Auxerre

August 28, 2018August 7, 2019 By Dick

A long day of travel – arrived at Pitt at 4:30 pm for a 7:50 flight. Flight was good and on time with an arrival of 9:30 am at Paris De Gaulle airport. There was some kind of security issue when I got off the plane and they delayed proceeding to Passport Control. Finally got through immigration and retrieved my luggage. Now just waiting for Dick to arrive from Scotland. His flight arrived on time, but there was some delay again. Finally, hook up about 1:00 pm and go to pick up our rental car. Longest process ever, took over 2 hours to get through it and actually getting our car. Kudoos to Dick for not maiming anyone.

With the delay of the rental, we needed to scrap our plans for stopping in Sens to see the Abbey. Had a great drive and arrived at the perfect time to check into our B&B in Auxuerre.

Our B&B is in the “Old Town” of Auxuerre. Built in the 16th century and now tended by Jerome, his wife and 3 small children. The place is amazing, there are 4-bedroom suites they rent out, plus the large space inhabited by Jerome and his family, in addition to the public rooms available to the guests. Jerome our host is a real character and we spend a nice evening doing a walkabout of the old town and having dinner. It being Monday, dining options were limited, but we were both tired and something small was great. An uneventful evening and in bed at a reasonable hour. Lovely town.

Fellow golfers and I had an early start (4:30) to get to Edinburgh airport for our morning flights. The gents are heading home to Pittsburgh and I head off to a hook-up with Mary at CDG in Paris. Uneventful flight, but holy cow, what a line at customs! Some kind of security issue. One estimate was 1200 folk waiting to clear security. Geez.
I hook up with the bride and after a spirited negotiation with the rental car dweeb we’re off to Auxerre. The car is fine, manual trans with a nice transmission, and the drive is easy.

Our host, Jerome, is hilarious. Picture a young, free-spirited Frenchman living in a 16th-century home and you’ve got the vibe. Good stuff.

Hey – it’s us!

As the two of us have travelled over the years we’ve tried to keep a blog going (mainly so we can remember what the heck we did!).  It’s been good fun and a great way to hold on to special memories.
