Algarrobo

November 10, 2019November 20, 2019 By 2 Smiths

It’s a quiet day today.   Our B&B is very pleasant with great views of the Pacific from our room and from the large deck.  It’s very windy overnight and the awnings covering the deck make incredible sounds that wake us both up a couple of times during the evening.  We both thought it sounded like someone walking on the roof!

At breakfast, we met a German couple touring South America.  Wow – have they had bad luck.  Their visit to Bolivia was cancelled when the border closed due to unrest.  A tour of Valparaiso also cancelled.  And, the woman had luggage stolen from a taxi a few days earlier.  Nicht so gut.

We pretty much hung around the deck until taking an afternoon walk along the waterfront in Algarrobo. It’s a small beach town and there are quite a few folk sunbathing along the shore.  We had hoped to find a place for Mary to have a glass of wine and a beer for me but slim pickings.  Out of desperation we stopped at ‘Burgers and Beer’.   Alas, no wine.  A nice beer list, but only 2 available.  And, they served our beers in coffee mugs – evidently, they didn’t have some needed permit for alcohol sales.  Interesting, these Chilenos.

D.

We get to sleep in this morning and have selected a 9:30 breakfast.  This place only has three rooms, and all were full.  The German couple from the night before is at breakfast when we come down.  They are eager to chat about their experiences to date.  I can probably say with some assurance that the wife will not be in Chile again.  There is another two people, I think mother and daughter that come down a little later, but we do not engage.  It seems that everyone but us is checking out.

We spend some time out on the deck overlooking the Pacific, then decide to walk about the ocean.  It is a Sunday and there are many people with their children enjoying the beach.  It is not season yet, so these are local families.  It is quite cool, but the kids are in the water anyway.  Most of the food offerings tend to be beach shacks.  With some of the political unrest that has reached Valparaiso many establishments are being cautious. We elect to eat at Burgers and Beer, very close to our B&B as we are not interested in attempting an Uber at this point.  We get the chicken slider sample – not bad.

We return to our lodgings and retire to the deck.  Apparently, we are the only people staying here today and have the place to ourselves.  A nice evening reducing the wine inventory and working on the blog.  It’s good to relax.

Hey – it’s us!

As the two of us have travelled over the years we’ve tried to keep a blog going (mainly so we can remember what the heck we did!).  It’s been good fun and a great way to hold on to special memories.
