Our last full day in Cape town. In addition to both of us being burned out from the long flight, Mary is still having some major stomach issues and has slept a good part of the morning and early afternoon after a really tough night.
We headed back into the city center and visited the District Six Museum. The museum documents the forced removal of non-whites from what was once a vibrant district in the city. The entire area was razed and rebuilt for white housing with the original occupants being moved 15 miles out from the city. For us Pittsburgh folks it is pretty similar (but on a much larger and harsher scale) as what happened in Pittsburgh’s Hill District. Sad stuff.
One of our absolute ‘must do’s’ was a visit to a place called ‘Honest Chocolate’. Several years ago, the Sunday Parade Magazine had an article with a recipe for their brownies (“Somebody Feed Phil’s Favorite Brownies – Parade”). Mary has been trying to perfect her version and insisted we try the real thing. We bought a few for research purposes. She’s pretty close!
Memory was able to score a reservation for us at the Black Sheep restaurant a short walk from our hotel. The food and service were great. The front windows opened to the street and kids in drum bands and choral groups sang for us diners. A short night as we are on the move early in the morning.
