Sunday and it’s time to depart Aix.
Our flight tomorrow morning is early, so we booked a room at the Best Western near the Marseille airport. Oddly, the airport is in the town of Marignane, closer to Aix than Marseille. Weird folk, these French.
It’s been a wonderful visit. Aix is a special place and perfect for what we had hoped – getting to know French culture, enjoy the culinary and wine world in this part of the planet, and visit some of the antiquities. Hard to beat.

Our last morning here. I was going to go to the boulangerie and get a last croissant for our breakfast, but since Lana brought the goodies yesterday, we decide to have pastry, fruit and juice for breakfast instead. Not necessarily a bad thing.
We are staying at the airport tonight to eliminate any last-minute dashing around in the morning. We need to check out of the apartment by eleven and have the car back by three. It’s only a 40-minute drive so we get to the hotel early after returning the car.
We have a nice lunch at the hotel and spend the afternoon catching up on last minute emails and Trip Advisor reviews. A late snack consisting of the leftover cheese and crackers we’ve brought with us and then to bed. We have an early morning start.
It’s been a different vacation than others in that we parked ourselves for an entire month in one place. The idea was to get immersed into the local culture, and we did. Life had a slower pace, we saw plenty but were not rushing around and we got to know a few of the locals. All good things. A beautiful part of the planet, I would recommend a visit.
