Last day on the Gemini!
After an early breakfast the crew pulls anchor for our return to Dunstaffnage Marina in Oban. It’s another beautiful sunrise and as we get underway we spot a magnificent stag on the mountains overlooking the sea. The weather is great for the rest of the journey back.
By 10:30 we are back in Oban. Michael and Rosemary had driven up from London so we say our farewells as they depart. The rest of us are taking a taxi back into downtown Oban. Our arrival is early enough that we can catch an earlier train to Glasgow than we had booked. This is the ‘West Highland Train’ again. It’s our third time for the route but first heading south. The rest of the group are also on the early train. Once in Glasgow, Bridget transfers trains to Edinburgh, where she resides, and the rest of us say our goodbyes and go our separate ways.
We are staying at the Dakota Hotel in Glasgow for the night (would stay here again). Google suggested a ten-minute walk from the Glasgow Central depot to the Dakota but uphill with luggage it takes a little longer.
After dropping our luggage, we headed for the ‘Pot Still’, a legendary whisky pub, a short walk from the hotel. The place is a target rich environment with over 800 whiskeys available. Dick made a note of the place while doing trip recon years ago. David, the manager at the Manor House in Oban, gave it the ‘if you only go one place in Glasgow’ review so it’s a no-brainer to check out. It was packed early but Mary was able to grab the last table in the main bar area. We had a nice chat with several other people while there. A wee dram and pies (Steak & Ale for M., Chicken for D.) made for an appropriate last dinner in Scotland.
