The golfing portion of our holiday is over. Bill and Kevin have headed back to Pittsburgh and Arkansas on early flights while Don & I are remaining in Glasgow where the ladies will join us.
We had some early time in Paisley before checking out of our hotel, the ‘Ashtree’, and took a short stroll to the center of town and the Paisley Abbey. The Abbey dates back to the 12th century and is built on a former Cluniac monastery founded by St. Mirren. Its organ is one of the finest in Scotland. During a restoration project in the 90’s, a stonemason replaced one of the exterior gargoyles with a replica of the space creature from the ‘Alien’ film. How cool is that!
Don & I dropped our luggage at the Airbnb we’ve booked for a few days in Glasgow, lunched at the ‘Taphouse’ down the street, then headed back to the airport to meet the gals. They were wiped out – a 6:30 AM pickup for the Pittsburgh airport, a 4-hour layover in Atlanta, a 10-hour layover in Amsterdam (!), and the final hop to Glasgow. Whew! On top of that, some tense moments waiting for the luggage in Glasgow, they were the last bags off the plane. Our driver from the port to the city was ‘Tom’ (pronounced ‘Tum’) – the same guy who hauled we golfers to Troon two weeks ago.
Our apartment is in the Finnieston district, known for its pubs & dining. Dinner at ‘Crescent’ was small plate Asian (not quite the typical traditional pub fare) but did the job before an early retire for the evening.
