The weather looks slightly less ominous, and Dougie decides we can move on instead of staying in the shelter of Tobermory harbor for another evening. His plan is to head towards Loch Sunart to position ourselves for the next few days. The change in plans means that we’ll depart Tobermory before our scheduled Tobamory Distillery tour. Drat. Dick was able to parlay our ticket vouchers into samples and a discount on one of their wares.
It is very damp and cold today. Mary picked up another pair of socks and a neck gaiter. Dick takes a hike to the lighthouse to stretch his legs. It’s a nice walk of a few hours – a small waterfall and path to an oyster farm along the way and a side trail up to a memorial to locals fallen during the Great War. Too many names for such a small community. The path is sheltered and pleasant until the lighthouse comes into view and wow does the wind get fierce. It’s going to be a sporty ride later.
As expected, there’s rough weather leaving Tobermory before things calm down. It’s only bad for a half hour or so, but still wet and cold.
Dougie gets us to Loch Sunart where we drop anchor. While part of the group decides to go by zodiac to take a walk, the Smiths elect to stay on board. The folks had a nice walk but were nailed by a short, but heavy, rain shower while waiting for pickup. They were soaked coming aboard. Ian whipped up a Coronation Salad for lunch – first time either of us had tried before.
With the crappy weather, the trip itinerary has been blown to hell. It sounds like travel in this part of the planet is often ‘on the fly’. No worries. Dougie is doing his best to stay ahead of the game by finding things for us to do and places where water is calmer. We anchor for the night off Strontian.
Dinner is a Seabass Roulade. We’re not going hungry to say the least.
