Two blocks from our hotel is the pre-Incan site of ‘Huaca Pucllana’, founded by what is known as the ‘Lima Culture’. We headed down in the morning for a tour and quickly realize how fortunate we have been with private guides rather than the big group tours. Originally a complex of multiple pyramids, much of the site has been consumed by the city of Lima. The view from the top of what remains is very interesting with 360 degree views of Miraflores & Lima itself.
We were picked up around 5 for another gourmet tour – this time with ‘Exquisito Peru’, a small company specializing in ‘foody’ tours and cooking classes. Our guide was Lucia, a former chef with great connections in Lima’s gourmet restaurants. We started with a cacao workshop at ‘Cacaotal’, a chocolate shop founded by an enthusiastic Anthropologist. Our next stop was a sampling of Amazonian food at ‘amaZ’. Next was Statera, then the tiny ‘Barra Lima’, finishing up with cocktails at ‘’Carnaval’. A nice way to finish up Lima.
