Today was a targeted hit for the local market, looking for just the right ingredients for a salad for tomorrows dinner and the Paella guy for dinner tonight.
The market runs 3 days a week – Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. I was surprised that today’s number of vendors was probably double that of the other days. We found a good place to get some spring mix salad, awesome tomatoes and other vegetables for our salad tomorrow. Kind of neat, you just grab a basket, fill it with what you want, and they weigh it and tell you what it is. Total ingredients for a salad were 3 Euros and included spring mix, carrots, tomatoes, shallots, red pepper.
We get the Paella (the Royale), has everything in it. 10 Euros and will feed both of us.
Dick runs the food back to the apartment, and we wander down the Cours Mirabeau for a look at the local architecture and some people watching at some of the cafes.
On the way home, we stop and get some gorgeous macaroons at a small shop off Rue de Cordeliers, across from Cave du Felibrige (great wine store) and of course by Les Route ds Bieres, so everyone is happy.
We have an appertif at our favorite neighborhood spot, Le Novo – then home to have dinner on the terrace and watch the sunset.

It’s market day today and although it also happens on Tuesdays and Thursdays, this one seems special – lots more vendors and folk. Mary has targeted some of the vendors for stuff for our next few meals, so shopping is quickly done and we’re on to serious people watching.
Aix is an interesting scene with farmers, vendors, hipsters, and tourists wandering the streets. Fun to watch.
